"Selected from a Long List of Boeing Approved Coaches "

"Sharon was selected from a long list of Boeing approved coaches, along with 5 others, for an initial telephone interview. I followed up with second interviews of Sharon and two others and ultimately selected her.

This was my only formal coaching experience, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Given that, my best measure of Sharon’s effectiveness is against what I think that I would like to see from a coach assigned to one of my people. What I would be looking for is someone who is very perceptive, an excellent communicator, diplomatic and organizationally savvy for a Company the size and complexity of Boeing. I think Sharon fit this profile the best of the 6 coaches that I initially interviewed, and validated my selection throughout our sessions.    

Sharon facilitated getting me some much needed unvarnished feedback from the folks that I worked with. Information received through past 360’s, performance appraisals and discussions with my boss were inadequate. From the information Sharon gathered, I was able to craft strategies to address areas for improvement, as well as continue to display my strengths.

The assignment that I was supporting at the time that I was working with Sharon was somewhat ambiguous. Sharon encouraged me to put some additional structure into it, which was a catalyst for making more visible progress. The result was an operating model for the delivery of back office type services (shared services, IT and HR), that was delivered ahead of schedule, a milestone driven implementation plan, and a forecast of expected efficiencies and $ savings to be realized once up and running. Organizational buy-in was achieved for all facets of the model, implementation plan and projected efficiencies, by those in-charge of its subsequent adoption.   

 Sharon was a continuous source of good feedback throughout the coaching assignment. She was a highly effective sounding board and was not hesitant to provide ideas for alternative approaches to achieve both my personal goals and those goals that my boss and I had agreed upon.
